Atlanta mayor signs airport concessions contracts

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has signed concessions contracts at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport worth more than $3 billion.

The mayor's office says the mayor signed the legislation early Thursday. The city council on Tuesday voted 12-3 in favor of the contracts for 126 food and beverage locations and 24 retail locations at the airport.

The new concessions contracts will generate $51 million in annual revenues, an increase of more than $23 million.

The concessions contracts process had been criticized by people who wanted more vetting of the process and bidders.

The mayor's office also on Thursday released the names of the airport evaluation committee members for the first time in the city's history. The mayor's office says the members were fully vetted to rule out conflicts of interest or other issues.
